Bradley’s Department of Teacher Education offers an undergraduate curriculum leading to a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in Learning Behavior Specialist I. The purpose of the program is to ensure students have the ability to act as an advocate for children and youth with special needs and programs in special education. Students in the program develop skills to comprehend how disabilities impact the cognitive, physical, emotional, social, and communication development of all students of all ages as well as to motivate individuals and groups to create a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation. Completion of the program enables students with eligibility for State of Illinois teacher certification as a special education teacher (ages 3- 21) with an endorsement in Learning Behavioral Specialist I.

For Learning Behavioral Specialist majors, real world experience begins immediately as they step onto campus. At Bradley, students begin observing local classrooms during the first semester of their freshman year throughout their senior year. This opportunity allows students to gain a better understanding of the teaching process and prepares them for student teaching during their final semester.
The teaching faculty at Bradley has aligned our curriculum with the Illinois Professional Teaching Standards with NCATE standards to ensure the Bradley University coursework, projects, assignments, and experience will prepare students to obtain certification and licensure. Faculty also have relationships with several professional development schools where the students may gain experience in those classrooms instead of a lab school setting.
Outside of the classroom, Bradley’s Learning Behavior Specialist majors enjoy many co curricular and cooperative learning experiences, including:

Recently, graduates from the program have earned a 97% pass rate on the Illinois Certification Test. Graduate school opportunities at Bradley University consist of Master’s Degree programs in:
