Bradley’s Department of Communication offers an undergraduate curriculum leading to a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with a concentration in Electronic Media. The program integrates the academic study of communication with a commitment to pre-professional education in electronic media. Bradley’s Electronic Media students are a part of the Slane College of Communications and Fine Arts.
Slane College students have access to exceptional facilities, labs, studios, stages, and technology in five different buildings. Based in the state-of-the-art Caterpillar Global Communications Center, the Slane College offers students amazing technological opportunities through the use of:
- video conferencing
- wireless personal computing
- Internet2 (ultra-high broadband network)
Through the use of Internet2, students participate in classes with leading entertainment industry professionals in Hollywood and New York City. The Slane College Hollywood Center Network offers internships, expedition courses, and job opportunities with our large number of Bradley alumnae.
Many faculty members have held leadership positions in major scholarly organizations and national media organizations in the United States, Europe and Asia. A number of the Bradley communications faculty also have experience with all major broadcast networks and the Walt Disney Company. Through course instruction and career-related “hands on” projects, students gain experience in:
- radio and television production
- media sales and administration
- broadcast production
Outside of the classroom, Bradley Electronic Media students enjoy many pre-professional learning experiences including Bradley’s student-run radio station and “Midstate Magazine”, Bradley’s student produced television program. The half-hour show is produced weekly and highlights the news, arts, and special events happening in the Peoria community. “Midstate Magazine” gives students the opportunity to gain real-world production experience in a professional setting.
