The
mission of the University galleries is to expand the audiences for the visual
arts community as well as promoting understanding, appreciation and scholarship
of contemporary art. The perfect vehicle with which to achieve this has
been, since 1950, the Bradley National Print and Drawing Exhibition. As
the faculty seeks to increase their global emphasis within the curriculum,
it has become appropriate to extend its vision to the international art
scene. This year, the Bradley National is indicative of the art being produced
at the onset of the new millennium.
Mark Pascale served as the juror for the 28th Bradley National Print and
Drawing Exhibition. He brought not only an informed eye for contemporary
art, but also a concern for issues that involve artists who have chosen
to work in printmaking and drawing, regardless of the traditional definitions
that are often associated with these disciplines. The works in this exhibition
emphasize the individuality of the artistic voice and a commitment to visual
expression through materials and craft.
We thank Lakeview Museum of Arts and Sciences and The Peoria Art Guild for
their continuing participation in this project. With their cooperation,
the support of our patrons, and the Illinois Arts Council, the Bradley National
promises to strive for new levels of excellence and exciting global dimensions.
