National Volunteer Week

Volunteer Week '11: Decorating flower pots for the nursing home.

April 7, 2011

Monday: Random Act of Kindness

This year's National Volunteer Week will be our second annual planting of flower pots. We plant these flowers as a simple act of kindness. We hope to brighten resident's days and to share a hint of Spring with the elderly community. Come help us pot plants between 12:00-4:00 PM to be delivered to Nursing homes in the Peoria community!

Tuesday: Paying it Forward

Sure it's fun to tie dye your own T-shirt, but in spirit of National Volunteer Week, come help us tie dye T-shirts to donate the The Children's Home of Illinois. The Children's Home in Peoria supports nearly 1,000 children a month by their dedication to building a stronger community and stronger families. They provide a hopeful future for children by providing education, protection and healing for children. Help us brighten the day of these children by giving them each a brightly-dyed T-shirt to wear this Spring! Fellows will provide the T-shirts and the dye, just meet us on the Quad between 12:00 and 4:00 PM.

Wednesday: Fundraising Extravaganza

A fundraising extravaganza will happen on the Quad between 12:00-4:00 PM. There will be a Bake Sale, Lemon Shake-Ups and a Garage Sale. (Fellows has been saving up for the Garage Sale for week, so we promise good finds!) Come discover second-hand treasures and eat some treats, because all the profits will go to earthquake relief for families in Japan and The Center for Prevention of Abuse. As college students, we have many opportunities to help support different philanthropies and what better way to do it than through good food and
discount shopping!

From 7:00-8:00 PM in the Fitness Room upstairs in Markin, "Zumba Sue" will be teaching a philanthropic ZUMBA fitness class! For those of you who don't know, Zumba is an exhilarating, Latin-inspired dance fitness party. The class will cost only $2 and further donations are welcome. Proceeds will benefit Easter Seals, an organization near and dear to the Bradley Fellows. So come on and dance off some calories in the name of a good cause!
