Article 1: Name of the organization

The name of this organization shall be Bradley Accounting Club (BAC).

Article 2: The objectives and purposes of the chapter

BAC is an organization for students interested in accounting. Its purpose is to help members gain knowledge of specific accounting careers, obtain onsite experience through job shadowing and group visits to companies and foster good relations through social events and networking.

Article 3: Membership

Membership in BAC is open to all Bradley students willing to support our purpose. Requirements for membership include annual dues of $25.00 or $15.00 per semester. These dues are nonrefundable. Dues are payable 14 calendar days after a prospective member has attended his/her first meeting of the semester.

Article 4: Meetings for the conduct of business

Actions requiring the vote of the entire membership include electing or removing executive committee or cabinet members, changing dues, and electing or removing faculty advisors. A quorum of at least 50% of the members that have paid their current dues is required. A simple majority of the members present is required to pass these actions.

The executive committee includes the president, treasurer, secretary and historian.

The cabinet includes the coordinator of field trips, coordinator of speaker activities, coordinator of career information activities, coordinator of social events, and student business leadership counsel representative.

Actions requiring vote of executive committee and cabinet include approval of the semester’s activities plan. A quorum of at least 50% of the executive committee and cabinet must be present to conduct business. A simple majority is required to pass any actions.

Article 5: Executive committee

The president shall:

  1. Oversee the executive committee and cabinet
  2. Monitor the planning of activities
  3. Preside at BAC meetings

The treasurer shall:

  1. Collect dues
  2. Pay bills
  3. Maintain all financial records
  4. Prepare financial statements at least once each semester, no later than one month after the end of the semester

The secretary shall:

  1. Record and maintain minutes
  2. Manage membership records
  3. Communicate events with membership

The historian shall:

  1. Maintain electronic records of minutes
  2. Maintain electronic records of event data
  3. Maintain organization’s website

Article 6: Cabinet

The coordinator of field trips shall:

  1. Coordinate field trips to businesses
  2. Coordinate job shadowing programs

The coordinator of career information activities shall:

  1. Arrange membership meetings with accounting professionals and experts on specific accounting careers

The coordinator of community events shall:

  1. Arrange events for networking
  2. Coordinate community service projects
  3. Coordinate BAC's involvement in the August activities fair and the FCBA organizational fair, which takes place during the Spring semester

The SBLC representative shall:

  1. Represent BAC at student business leadership council (SBLC) meetings
  2. Keep the executive board and cabinet informed of the SBLC’s activities

Article 7: Election and removal of executive committee and cabinet members

Executive committee and cabinet members shall be self-nominated and elected by paper ballot.

Executive committee and cabinet members are elected no later than April 15; their term starts July 1 and is annual.

Resignation shall be submitted in writing to at least one of the faculty advisors.

Removal of an executive committee or cabinet member shall be proposed by at least two executive committee members and voted on by membership. A simple majority of the membership quorum is required for removal of an officer or cabinet member.

Vacancies shall be filled through the same process as annual elections.

Article 8: Faculty advisors

Faculty advisors shall be self-nominated and voted on by membership.

Faculty advisors shall:

  1. Provide counsel and assistance to the club, its officers, its executive committee, and the cabinet
  2. Serve as liaison with the administration of the university, college of business, and department of accounting
  3. Assure continuity of the club

Article 9: Removal of members

While participating in the activities of BAC, all members are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that is appropriate for accounting professionals and consistent with the Standards of Conduct published in the Bradley University Student Handbook.

The executive committee and cabinet will discuss any member’s conduct that appears to be inconsistent with the criteria listed above. If a majority of the executive committee and cabinet agree that the member’s conduct is not consistent with the standards listed above, the member will be asked to discuss the matter with them. After the discussion, the executive committee and cabinet will determine by majority vote the appropriate action, e.g., reprimand, probation, expulsion, etc. If the member is expelled, the executive committee and cabinet shall determine what, if any, conditions need to be met for reinstatement.

Article 10: Fiscal year

The fiscal year will end on June 30.

Article 11: Authority

These bylaws shall be the principle governing document of the Bradley Accounting Club.

Article 12: Requirements for amendment to the bylaws

A quorum of at least 50% of the membership must be present. Two-thirds of the quorum must cast an affirmative vote in order for an amendment to the bylaws to pass.
