Wednesday
November 10th
Reflections on a historic election I knew that Wednesday the 3rd of November wasn't going to be a pretty
day, and it wasn't based on the responses from the left. I did the best I could at masking
my excitement over Bush's victory, because gloating is just not my thing. I wonder if
those on the left would have done the same had Kerry won, unfortunately I don't think I
would have heard the end of it. I knew I would have to keep a straight face in dealing
with those who were upset, and do the best I could not to lose my patience. What I've
experienced since then seems a little out of the ordinary, and I venture to think that
some people are taking Kerry's loss too personally, and letting it upset their personal
life. I've seen people literally break down and cry because of the election results. I
don't know what to say to these people, because they somehow have it in their head that
the end of America is coming with a second term of George Bush in the White House. How do
you reason with someone with beliefs like that? I don't believe in conspiracy theories -
on either side of the fence. Are there many things about the Bush Administration that we
don't know? Yes, and arguably there are things that the public just should not know. Is
there any part of me that gives any credit to the arguments that say the Iraq war is based
on enriching corporations, the Patriot Act is destroying civil rights, and that the War on
Terrorism is a lie that gives the President reasons to launch false wars? No. I do not
give credit to any of these beliefs, and this is why it is so hard for me to talk to
someone who honestly believes this.
Many of the outspoken leftists have been quick to
call Americans stupid or ignorant for voting for Bush. According to a Gallup survey (requires
registration) over the election results, Kerry won 53% to 47% over Bush on those with
post-graduate degrees, not surprising considering all of the liberal professors pervading
Universities across the nation. However, Bush won 58% to 42% over Kerry on those with
bachelors degrees. Those with partial college educations went for Bush 56% to 44% for
Kerry. Finally, those with high-school educations or less went for Kerry 54% to 46%. Based
on these statistics, it is simply ridiculous to call Bush supporters "stupid".
59 million Americans voting for President Bush are not stupid. Maybe it is time for the
left to wake up and realize that they are in the minority. Name-calling will get you
nowhere.

What this election is really about
I was speaking with a friend yesterday who still hasn't decided
which candidate to vote for, and asked me to persuade him one way or the other. He then
mentioned that he didn't care about Iraq because he supported it, and he didn't care about
foreign issues - he only cared about domestic issues. This is a dangerous line of thinking
during a time of war, to say that you do not care about what is going on across the pond.
This election is very important because of one single issue, terrorism and the threat it
poses to America and the rest of the world. Do not let your friends and family get off
thinking that we are not involved in a war, and that foreign issues don't matter. We are
about to elect a President that will continue to be involved in the War on Terror. Bush
has campaigned on a solid platform of disbanding the Taliban, hunting down Al Qaeda,
removing Saddam Hussein, and instating democratic governments in vulnerable nations. John
"I have a plan Kerry" has a plan, but no one is quite sure what it is... Let's
take a look at the many plans of John Kerry...
SEN. JOHN KERRY: "Saddam Hussein has used weapons of mass destruction
against his own people, and there is some evidence of their efforts to try to secure these
kinds of weapons and even test them." (CBS "Face The Nation,"
9/23/01)
KERRY: "I think we need to put the pressure on, no matter what the
evidence is about September 11 ..." (Fox News "The OReilly
Factor," 12/11/01)
KERRY: "I think we clearly have to keep the pressure on terrorism
globally. This doesnt end with Afghanistan by any imagination. And I think the
president has made that clear. I think we have made that clear. Terrorism is a global
menace. Its a scourge. And it is absolutely vital that we continue, for instance,
Saddam Hussein." (CNNs "Larry King Live," 12/14/01)
"I agree completely with this Administrations goal of a regime
change in Iraq ..." - John Kerry, 7/29/02 Remarks at the 2002 DLC National
Conversation, NY (Senator John Kerry, Speech To The 2002 DLC National Conversation, New
York, NY, 7/29/02)
KERRY: "But the president, as I also wrote in that article, always
reserves the right to act unilaterally to protect the interests of our country."
(MSNBCs "Hardball," 9/17/02)
KERRY: "George, I said at the time I would have preferred if we had given
diplomacy a greater opportunity, but I think it was the right decision to disarm Saddam
Hussein, and when the President made the decision, I supported him, and I support the fact
that we did disarm him." (ABC News Democrat Presidential Candidates Debate, Columbia,
SC, 5/3/03)
KERRY: "And the fact is, in the resolution that we passed, we did not
empower the President to do regime change." (NBCs "Meet The Press,"
8/31/03)
KERRY: "Yes, I would have voted for the authority. I believe it's the
right authority for a president to have." (CNN "Inside Politics," 8/9/04)
And then Kerry turns around and says wrong war, wrong place,
wrong time. How any citizen in America can take this man seriously is a mystery in itself.
Kerry has a plan alright, in fact it's such a good plan, he has covered every possible
position on the issue - something only a Massachusetts liberal could easily accomplish.

Thoughts from the first Presidential Debate
I was fortunate enough to attend the WLS Talk Radio 890 AM 80th
anniversary special at the Chicago Theater this past weekend and had the pleasure of
seeing Rush Limbaugh. Rush had the best response to Bush's agitated look throughout the
debate.
"Don't you think if you had to sit there for 90 minutes and
watch as your opponest lied through his teeth, that you'd be a little uncomfortable and
angry too?"
It's been said many times in the past that public speaking has
not been President Bush's strong point, but he comes across as real - not some overly fake
politician as Kerry does. I have no doubt that Kerry's 4 consecutive terms in the Senate
have aided his ability to debate (and to debate every side of an issue at that). If you
check the RNC and DNC websites, there are responses to the debate. What have the democrats
responded with? A video of Bush's facial expressions throughout the debate. What have the
Republicans responded with? A video portraying the many flip-flops of John Kerry. Is this
what the democrats have resorted to? If so, we don't really have much to worry about going
into the election this November.
This would be a different story if the media paid less attention
to John Kerrys newly ironed suit, flashy hair, and painted nails and more attention to the
fact he did not explain in detail any of his so-called plans. Jim Lehrer posed a direct
question to Kerry about what exactly he would do differently in Iraq, and again John Kerry
dodged the question. The difference between Bush and Kerry? Bush repeated himself several
times, but repeated the same stance. Kerry repeated himself several times, but with
different stances each time.
Republicans, fret not! Our President made a few "style"
mistakes but remained steady and consistent, and in the end it is strength of consistancy
that will prevail. |
