Some Entertaining Extras

The Mu Delta Chapter of Chi Omega was born April 17th 1916, with the founding of Delta Kappa , which was a local sorority at Bradley University. At that time there were two other local sororities on Bradley's campus. In the summer of 1946 the alumnae of Delta Kappa went to Bradley's President to receive permission to petition national sororities. During the fall semester of 1946, a girl from 8 different national houses spoke about their individual groups. The national groups included: Chi Omega, Delta Gamma, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Kappa Alpha Theta, Pi Beta Phi, Alpha Phi, Gamma Phi Beta, and Delta Delta Delta. A vote was then taken at the beginning of spring semester in 1947 among the Grand Chapter (actives and alums) with Chi Omega receiving the most votes!

On February 7, 1947, Mary Love Collins announced the Delta Kappas as the MU DELTA chapter of CHI OMEGA... the first national sorority on Bradley's campus. On February 14, 1947 Chi Omega actives from Nothwestern University initiated the Delta Kappa actives as a group and activated the pledges. In April of 1947, ninety-nine Delta Kappas were initiated into Chi Omega at Mount Hawley Country Club. This was an unusual coincidence as Mu Delta is the ninety-ninth chapter of Chi Omega. In the summer of 1948, Chi Omega bought the southern plantation-style house on the corner of Bradley and Glenwood, which is still its home today.
