The Bradley HEAT offers a variety of presentations to help educate the campus in a unique way. All of our presentations are listed below with a brief synopsis of each. If you would like us to present for you or your organization, please contact our president, Nausheen Farishta (nfarishta@mail.bradley.edu).
Alcohol 101 – Outside Alcohol Presentation
Presented to dorm floors and Greek houses, this presentation addresses safe drinking behavior, what to do if someone has alcohol poisoning, as well as the perceptions of what a standard drink really is. An interactive presentation that not only gets people involved but makes them part of the presentation.
No Ifs, ands, or Butts – Tobacco Presentation
This presentation addressed the use of tobacco products, why they are commonly used, as well as the health risks to not only the user, but to those around them. Filled with information about tobacco it also addressed Smoke Free Illinois. This presentation is interactive, uses the “clicker” technology for trivia questions, and there are plenty of chances for the audience to win prizes and become involved in the presentation.
Nuts about your Body – Body Image Presentation
This presentation addresses several eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating. It also looks at strategies to achieve and maintain a positive outlook on your own body image by showing how the media distorts the concept of what is healthy. This presentation is very interactive while getting students to open up and feel comfortable with their physical appearance.
Sexual Assault
This Sexual Assault and Abuse Presentation is the newest addition to the Bradley HEAT. This workshop is an interactive way to break down the stereotypes and rumors often associated with Sexual Assault and Abuse. We want our students to feel educated and empowered on this subject because it is not necessarily comfortable or popular to always talk about, but is occurring more often than one would want to believe. All of the topics discussed within this program are useful for both men and women and does not favor to one or the other. The goal is not to scare or intimidate students in such a way that they do not trust anyone; but for them to feel confident enough to take the steps necessary to help prevent sexual assault to themselves, a friend, classmate, or a family member.
Sexual Health
This presentation can be adapted to the entire campus, seen on dorm floors, Greek houses, or class rooms. This presentation addresses sexual health, which encompasses abstinence, proper usage of birth control (i.e. condoms, birth control pills etc.) along with common Sexually Transmitted Infections, HIV/AIDS, and testing on this campus. Interactive and involving several games to get the audience laughing and having a good time so that the information doesn’t bog them down.
Small Group Social Norms “Small Group Social What” – Alcohol Presentation
This presentation addresses the facts as they are on Bradley’s campus, as well as health related aspects, sexual assault, and ways to be safe while out. Dealing with people’s perception about what they think is going on with what is actually going on. Using the “clicker” technology to instantly create graphs so that people can see what their peers are thinking. This presentation also addresses common confusions such as the Alcohol Action Plan, and types of Alcohol related tickets.
Stress
Stress is something everyone faces at one point or another, so addressing how people can handle it is how this presentation works. Showing common relations between stressors among college students shows people that they are not the only person feeling that stressor and that maybe working together or addressing how your stressor can be handled is what this presentation aims to do.
You Are Not Alone (YANA)- Mental Health Presentation
You Are Not Alone (YANA) is an interactive workshop about mental health and illness. The purpose of the workshop is to begin discussions about mental health and alleviate the negative stigma associated with mental illness. Alleviating the stigma is the main focus because it is currently what inhibits communication about the topic - which in turns stops people from helping their friends and themselves. This workshop can be adapted for any group or organization on campus, so ask us today!
