Notes:
- Ryan persists in swiping weapons from an easily-distracted Constable.
Committee Reports:
Recruitment and Relations Committee:
Quiz Bowl Committee:
- Marisa and Chris K. attended the meeting. The intent of the club is for inter-scholastic competition, with meetings beginning Mondays at 9 pm in the student center atrium.
- However, they would also run an intra-scholastic competition if there was enough interest in so doing.
T-Shirt Committee:
- After last week's meeting, people who saw our "Better Geek than Greek" t-shirts gave hugs to Chris J. and Ryan. This led to the suggestion of the phrase, "Hug me! I'm a sci-fi geek!" for a slogan.
- Any slogan we end up selecting should be cleared with Psi Phi West in Arizona State University, who are a bunch of cool people.
Movie Committee:
- There will be a movie.
- Lyz and Landon offer to be on the committee.
- Bryce suggests Time Bandits as a movie; Marisa suggests The Princess Bride.
- Julie will go to Blockbuster and try to pick up Dune and Forbidden Planet.
- In the uplifting spirit of fascism, Julie will arbitrarily pick the first movie to be shown.
- This Sunday at 3 pm, a movie will be screened at Lyz's house; she will email directions to the list.
- A request is made that refreshments that are brought be sugar-free and/or diet, to keep the carpet stain-free in the event of spillage.
No Report Committee:
- Anti-Joel is an entertaining bat thing flapping around the room, until he is subdued by security.
- Should he or shouldn't he?
- No report.
Officers' Reports:
Communications Officer:
- The minutes are not up yet, but they will be.
- Jon Davison recently paid a compliment to the Comm Officer, consisting of the following: "Kenny Albright has revolutionized the art of minutes-taking."
- This stands as further proof that the easiest way to get your name in the minutes is to butter up the Comm Officer.
- Upon hearing this, David immediately offers the Comm Officer a cookie. "David Henderson" gets to be in the minutes.
- Tonight's LotR TCG Card of the Week is "Aragorn, Ranger of the North." There are only 13 days left until the release of the game!
Constable:
- First, an honorary report, a statement recently made by HIS 225's Dr. Jones: "I'd like to play with dynamite. I'd like to have a poison collection."
- And, per suggestion, tonight's report: "Well, then, take your best shot Locutus, because we are about to intervene." --Riker, "Best of Both Worlds, Part II"
- Everything's under control.
Grand Nagus:
- The current balance is $400.59.
- Anti-Joel hereby declares a coup, and directs Joel to "talk!"
- The club apparently has donated a penny to the Send Joel to London Fund.
Chief of Operations:
- Information about 3 upcoming episodes is now up on at http://enterprise.psiphi.org.
- Also up is a link to www.startrek.com, which has just put up several new video interviews with Enterprise cast members.
First Officer:
- No report, but the First Officer has an excused absence (she's sick).
- Chris J. arrives at 10:34.
Captain:
- "Letters" is performed.
- Mail:
- A flyer for the Expressions Art and Poetry Contest, honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Submissions are due in the Garrett Center by November 30.
- Propaganda for Habitat for Humanity's Shack-a-Thon on Wednesday, November 14.
- David notes that we might need a bulldozer to build a shack.
- Propaganda for the Pack the House event on October 27, featuring the women's volleyball game against Southwest Missouri State.
- The Captain issues an Executive Order that says the Nagus shouldn't embezzle.
- It is wondered whether or not we should activate the Budget article in the Psi Phi Constitution, to give the Nagus something constructive to do.
- A copy of Psi Phi's bylaws are added to the copy of the Constitution currently wrapped around the bapper. The Constable notes this is effectively a "weapons upgrade."
New Business:
- Chris A. suggests a quote to the Constable for next week's Constabulary Report.
- Bryce notes that some short sci-fi animated web cartoons of note can be found at www.campchaos.com and www.sho.com.
- The motion is made to form a Shack-a-Thon Committee to organize a Psi Phi shack for the Shack-a-Thon.
- Debate ensues over whether we should just donate money, or break with long-standing tradition and actually build something.
- The more active version of the committee is formed, by a vote of 6-0, with 9 abstentions.
- Lyz is selected to chair the committee, and Ryan and Landon sign on as members.
- Attempting to plan ahead, the Comm Officer asks whether anybody could get a Bradley van for us to use when we go to the Star Trek convention in Champaign this February.
Scifi News:
- The Phantom Menace set a record for first-week DVD sales, which surpasses the one recently set by The Mummy Returns.
- The episode of Roswell featuring the Enterprise crossover will air next Tuesday at 8 pm on UPN. It guest-stars John Billingsley and Jonathan Frakes, and Frakes also directs.
- It is noted that Gene Roddenberry passed away exactly 10 years ago today.
- It is also noted that today is "mol day." (One for the chemistry majors, I guess.)
- Marisa says that Cartoon Network is currently airing new episodes of Reboot. Chris A. insists they're reruns. The truth remains uncertain, but the show is definitely on Cartoon Network.
- Chris J. says that John Williams officially began writing the score for Attack of the Clones 6 days ago.
- Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within is now available on DVD.
- Finally, it is noted that a sizable Psi Phi/Anime Club contingent saw Aliens at the movies last weekend.
Adjournment: 10:56 (it's me, it's me, it's DDP)(oogie-boogie-boogie)(floccipaucinihilipilification)pm
