Minutes: Summarized and approved.

• Chris J. is cursed for all eternity by the Captain: "Entropy is eternally screwed up." Carl points out a flaw in the Captain's reasoning; since disorder is increasing, entropy is perfectly fine.
• The Nagus says, "booty." There will be no [item deleted for security reasons] in the near future by the club.
• Due to popular request, the Chief quickly rereads last week's sci-fi news.
• Random maniacal laughter from the Comm Officer is followed by classic "Homer giggles" from the Chief.
• Chris and the Comm Officer present their intriguing theory of 3-4-5 names, available upon request. The Comm Officer declares, "It's really just a Pythagorean triple," and is promptly hit by the Captain.

Committee Reports:

• "Recruiting and relating; all sorts of fun."

• Adam has brought a D-30, and requests that members look but don't touch.
• No report.
• Charlie talks about B-Con, which is a role-playing convention being run in the Student Center on February 17th and 18th by the Medieval College Society.
• Featured games will include Adam's Game, Joel's Playscape game, and a D & D game run by Julie. Come have fun!

Officers' Reports:

• A squeal of glee (at least, it better be glee) erupts from Carl.
• The Comm Officer tells a joke which he concocted himself; widespread groaning ensues. If you didn't hear the joke (count yourself fortunate), contact the Comm Officer.
• It is decided that Kenny is wrong, not wrong-incorrect like Adam usually is, but just plain wrong.

• The current balance is $306.01, same as last week.
• The Captain apparently mishears "monotony" as "monogamy," and is confused.

• No report.

• "HA-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!"

• Ray notes, "We get letters, lotsa letters..."
• Mail:
  • Propaganda from the Adopt-a-School program; obviously, the people who send us these flyers are impaired in some way.
  • Flyers for the Career workshops
  • A flyer promoting Black History Month
• The qualifications for becoming a de facto member of Psi Phi are reviewed and hereby recorded:
  • 1)Show up;
  • 2)Have a pulse (optional);
  • 3)Survive the meeting;
  • 4)Repeat steps 1-3 as needed.

Old Business:

• Star Trek convention planning will now commence.
• We will be attending the con in Champaign on Sunday, February 11th, for two reasons: the band people have basketball band on Saturday, and it's cheaper that day anyway.
• Exact prices with tax are $21.45 to get in the door, or if you want one(1) guaranteed autograph from each star there as well, then it comes to $26.81.
• It is noted that those wanting autographs will either have to bring items from home or buy items in the dealer room to be autographed.
• Amy joins the meeting at 10:31 pm.
• The treasury will subsidize $6.81 for anyone who wants to go, so members need only come up with $20.00 to attend.
• Regarding transportation, Chris suggests we go to a car dealership and "test-drive" a van to the convention and back. Maybe next year...
• It is ruled that Aaron and Amy will provide transportation to and from the con, as they have the only cars, and we do not have access to a Bradley van; they will be reimbursed for gas money by Psi Phi.
• The convention will be open from 10-6, with the first presentation probably at 11, so we will gather at the Student Center and leave for Champaign at 7:30 am.
• Everyone who has one of this year's colorful Psi Phi shirts available is encouraged to wear it, so we can say to other convention-goers, in effect, "Psi Phi: We're better than you are."
• Final confirmation of these details and the members of our expeditionary force will be determined at next week's meeting.
• A duck call is made, for no good reason.

New Business:

• Charlie doesn't care about the Movie Committee. More fairly phrased, he will organize something if everybody begs him to, but he has no immediate plans to reinstate the committee.
• The suggestion to reserve a projector is made and shouted down.

Scifi News:

• William Shatner recently appeared on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien." He told several funny stories and promoted several projects, including a movie he is directing called "Broom Lake", and a book he is writing called "I'm Working on That", which deals with the science of Star Trek. (The title refers to Dr. Stephen Hawking's comment about the warp drive mockup when he guest-starred in the TNG episode "Descent, Part I.")
• Upcoming sci-fi movies include "Hannibal" ("The Silence of the Lambs" sequel), "Valentine" (with David Boreanaz from Angel), and a remake of "The Planet of the Apes", imaginatively titled "The Planet of the Apes."
• "ghIlghmeS", a Klingon translation of Gilgamesh, is due out soon. Qapla'!
• A sequel to the "Spock v. Q" audiobook is now available, involving the hilarious swapping of personalities, voiced by Nimoy and deLancie. The Captain remarks that no good can come of this.
• "The Voyager Companion", by Paul Ruditis, will be released later this year, probably in black and white.
• Some new eBooks about the Starfleet Corps of Engineers will be out this February for $3.50 each, using Microsoft Reader.
• Coming this fall to the WB is "Smallville", a show dealing with the adventures of 15-year-old Clark Kent, played by Tom Welling. Also, a new Justice League of America cartoon is in the works.
• A Spider-Man movie is currently in production, with Tobey Maguire ("The Cider House Rules") as Peter Parker.
• Also filming now is a Scooby-Doo live action movie (shudder), with Sarah Michelle Gellar as Daphne and Freddie Prinze, Jr. as Fred (gee, how appropriate). No word as of yet on who will play Velma.
• Now available is the "Star Trek Special" #1 comic with 6 short stories inside (by various authors), as well as Voyager's "Planet Killer" #1 (of 4), by Dean Wesley Smith and Kristine Kathryn Rusch; this Voyager comic is the sequel to TOS "The Doomsday Machine."
• Coming next month are "Planet Killer" #2, and TOS "Enter the Wolves", about Sarek, Spock, and Perrin.
• Star Trek actors in recent movies include Alexander Siddig ("Vertical Limit") and Jeri Ryan ("Dracula 2000").
• "Dark Passions" books 1 and 2, by Susan Wright, are available now, as are "Tooth and Claw", by Doranna Durgin, and "Diplomatic Implausibility", by Keith R.A. DeCandido, which deals with Worf's first assignment as Federation ambassador to the Klingon Empire.
• David also has a preview of "The Definitive Star Trek Trivia Book, Vol. II", by Jill Sherwin, due out this April. Answers are included; anyone who wants to play Trek Jeopardy can stay after the meeting.
