Minutes: Summarized and approved.
Notes:
- Carl arrives at 10:04.
- Ryan says something about wrestling.
- The Comm Officer arrives at 10:11:04.
- The Comm Officer would like to express his gratitude to the Captain and the Chief, who were good enough to take over his duties temporarily, since he was late tonight. Lyz took the minutes, and David read the minutes from last week.
- Also, since this was the first meeting after winter break, tonight the club breaks with normal procedure and allows David to give his sci-fi news first. This seems to work very, very well. (The news can still be found in the usual order in these minutes.)
Committee Reports:
Recruitment and Relations Committee:
- No report, other than that we have new people tonight.
Party Committee:
- The Party Committee, otherwise known as "Bryce's Basement Committee," is officially deactivated for now.
Quiz Bowl Committee:
Versailles Committee:
- This committee is "officially dead."
T-Shirt Committee:
- A new sign-in sheet is passed around, since the first one has been lost.
- Psi Phi alum Ray Kremer has sent word that some people at Purdue would also like t-shirts; he'll send in an order soon.
- Hopefully, we can have the shirts available to be distributed before the convention on Sunday, February 10.
Movie Committee:
- Let's have a movie!
- Send Lyz your movie ideas.
- There are plenty of potato chips still at Lyz and Landon's house.
No Report Committee:
- Chris A. is made tonight's chairman by "random" selection. A suspicious "Woohoo!" is exclaimed.
- Chris forgot his report, so no report this week.
Officers' Reports:
Communications Officer:
- The minutes are up, and the Bradley Psi Phi website has been completely updated for the current semester; even the Psi Phi constitution has been updated! The Comm Officer gives the Constable a copy to wrap around the bapper.
- A funny bit of dialogue from last Sunday's Simpsons episode, involving the Comic Book Store Guy at the library's book sale: "Ah yes, this will complete my Leonard Nimoy cycle...'I Am Not Spock,' 'I Am Spock,' and 'I Am Also Scotty.'"
- Ray Kremer has sent the Comm Officer a link to the Lego-animated recreation of the "Round Table" song from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. You can see it at www.lego.com/studios/screening/movie.asp?title=montypython.
Constable:
- The Constable names Carl and Chris A. as deputy constables, in case he has to miss any meetings this semester.
- This week's HIS 385 quote: "It's good to punish innocent people. It frightens others."
- Marisa has been officially upgraded from a security risk to a fire hazard.
- "Captain's personal log. Supplemental. I have just witnessed the total destruction of the USS Enterprise with the loss of all hands, save one. Me." --Picard, "Time Squared"
- Everything's under control.
Grand Nagus:
- The current balance is approximately $302.32.
- The Treasury has officially been transferred to the new Nagus.
- Joel passes out pence-pieces to everyone, as souvenirs from his trip to London over break.
Chief of Operations:
- Lots of nifty new stuff is up on the websites. Hits logged on each are going up, up, up!
- We also have money coming in from amazon.com, which actually made a profit this past quarter of about $5 million! David says it works out to "about a penny per share of stock, but it's a start."
- The Comm Officer is given permission to put a link to the Enterprise site on the Bradley site. {I'll get right on that...}
First Officer:
- The First Officer shares a little opinion that "Stupid people should be dragged out into the street and shot until they get smarter."
Captain:
- We have reserved rooms for every meeting this semester except the one on February 6, due to the job fair.
- The Captain is trying to decide whether or not she has been complimented on her hairstyle.
- "Letters" is sung for the mail.
- Mail:
- Propaganda from the Activities Council, regarding signing up for booths at the 53rd annual Carnival
- The club decides not to run a booth; apathy wins again.
Old Business:
- The LoveTrek convention in Champaign, IL is scheduled for the weekend of February 9-10. We will probably go on Sunday the 10th, because the admission price is cheaper then.
- The admission price on Sunday, which includes one autograph from each of the celebrities that will be present, is $25 plus tax.
- Psi Phi will subsidize the $5 and tax for any members who want to attend and get autographs, so the cost will only be $20 for anyone interested.
Scifi News:
- Most of the following news is taken directly from David's prepared notes, and was read at the beginning of the meeting.
- The Lurker's Guide to Babylon 5 (http://www.midwinter.com/lurk/lurker.html) is back up. It had been inaccessible for a while because it was being stored on NBCi.com computers and backups. After NBCi.com went out of business, the computers were all sold at auction, so the Guide had to go find a new home.
- Jeffrey Combs is returning to Enterprise as Shran the Andorian in two episodes this season, the first being "Shadows of P'Jem" in February, and the second yet to be determined.
- Ethan Phillips becomes a Ferengi for the third time in an upcoming Enterprise episode. This appearance will not violate the legitimacy of Federation first contact with the Ferengi in 2364 (from TNG "The Last Outpost").
- Tom Bergeron, host of "The Hollywood Squares" and "America's Funniest Home Videos" and former host of "Fox After Breakfast," will also be appearing on Enterprise as an alien in an upcoming episode.
- "Jeremiah," a show about rebuilding a post-apocalyptic world, debuts on Showtime in March; it will star Luke Perry and Malcolm Jamal-Warner.
- As this is the last season for The X-Files, David Duchovny will probably appear in the series finale, a two-hour episode. Preliminary discussions have begun regarding a second X-Files movie.
- Blade II is coming to theaters on March 29.
- Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford have both begun talking about making Indiana Jones 4. The working title has not yet been revealed.
- At the Golden Globes, Jennifer Garner won Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series - Drama for her role in "Alias." Also, Harrison Ford, famous (around here anyway) for his roles of Indiana Jones and Han Solo, won the Cecil B. DeMille Award.
- Tron's special edition DVD is now available.
- The first season DVD box set of Buffy the Vampire Slayer is also out now.
- TNG Season 1 DVDs are coming out on March 26. There will be seven DVDs, each with 4 episodes per DVD, and an hour's worth of extras on the last one. Following seasons should be out every two months, which projects a May 2003 release for the seventh season.
- The LotR: The Fellowship of the Ring DVD will have deleted scenes on it that bring the movie to a total running time of four hours! {Scream in pain or in ecstasy, whichever you prefer.}
- Psi Phi alum Ray Kremer sends this link to the club, regarding the current status of the "Geek Hierarchy": http://www.brunching.com/features/geekhierarchy.html.
- Finally, Ryan reports that the Joanie Laurer, formerly Chyna of the WWF, is being considered to play the female Terminator role in the third Terminator movie.
