Students
at Bradley University's Forensics Institute have the opportunity to
work on specific events with top high school and college coaches and
with members of the National Championship Bradley Speech Team. Bradley
has won thirty three team national championships, most recently winning
the National Forensic Association in 2002.
The Institute
reflects the same coaching philosophy the staff uses for Bradley's
squad. We don't write speeches for you or hand material to you; however,
we do provide individual coaching and direction attuned to your skill
level. With this philosophy, we believe that the student develops
a better appreciation and understanding of the skills essential to
the communication of ideas. Lectures are geared toward both novice
and advanced students. We feel that an Institute should be a worthwhile
experience for all participants-not only for students of championship
ability.
This
coaching and learning takes place in an environment where you know
you are among friends. Every year, students tell us how much they
enjoyed the friendships and mentoring relationships they began at
camp.
What
you will learn... You will receive individualized coaching to
help you prepare and polish for one event before performance at the
final festival. You will gain practical insights into the basic principles
of forensics competition. You will recieve customized coaching to
fit the rules and time limits of your state.
How
you will participate... Coaches will assist you in selecting material
and topics for various events. You will learn how to edit literature
for performance or research topics for speeches. Guided Practice:
You will have your own coach for the two-week Institute, and you'll
meet in group and induvidual coaching sessions. Performance: You will
perform in a festival during the second week and receive critiques
from at least 8-10 different staff coaches. Evaluations are based
on experience level and are non-competitive. Classes: Classes will
meet each day, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Practice
and coaching sessions will take place during evenings and weekends.
You will receive a detailed schedule with your Institute notebook
at check-in.
Who
may attend? Anyone who has completed at least one, but no more
than three and one-half years of high school.
