History

In 1994, the Illinois State Library received a Higher Education Act II grant from the U.S. Department of Education to fund an institute to provide professional development for school and public librarians. The first institute, held in 1995, was an overwhelming success, leading the Illinois State Library to continue the Institute, using funds from the Library Services and Technology (LSTA) grant.

Now in its 14th year, the ISPL offers librarians from throughout the State of Illinois a rare opportunity to immerse themselves for a full week in the best practices in librarianship, to network, and to share experiences with their peers. We recognize and thank the Illinois State Library and the Institute of Museum and Library Services for supporting the Institute through LSTA funds. The registration fee is utilized for expenses not allowed under federal guidelines.
