Instructors

Dr. Lori Russell-Chapin is an approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS), an LCPC, and CMHCC who has completed the Northwestern University Divorce Mediation Training. Lori is a member of the Association for Conflict Resolution.

A Professor of Education and an award-winning teacher at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, Dr. Lori Russell-Chapin was the chairperson of Bradley's Department of Educational Leadership and Human Development for twelve years. Currently she is the Associate Dean for the College of Education and Health Sciences. Dr. Russell-Chapin continues to teach graduate counseling courses such as Practicum and Internship. Lori is in part-time private practice with her husband, Dr.Ted Chapin. She has been providing supervision for graduate students and counselors in the field for the past 19 years.

In 2004, Dr. Russell-Chapin and Dr. Allen Ivey co-authored a book entitled Your Supervised Practicum and Internship: Field Resources for Turning Theory into Practice through Brooks/Cole Publishers. Her "Microcounseling Supervision Model" was featured in the 2004 Canadian Journal for Counseling and Development. Dr. Russell-Chapin is the Editor for the Advocate, AMCHA's monthly newspaper.

John T. Brady has a broad background of experiences and formal training that he brings to his role as a mediator. In 1990, he participated in a program in Columbus, Ohio, sponsored by the Ohio Bar Association, and designed to train attorneys in the special skills needed to effectively mediate family issues. He has had additional training at conferences sponsored by the Academy of Family Mediators in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and by the Mediation Council of Illinois in Bloomington, Champaign, Chicago, Urbana, and Lake Forest, Illinois.

In addition to a law degree and over twenty-five years of experience as an attorney, John holds a master's degree in Guidance and Counseling from Bradley University. Prior to attending law school, he was a high school teacher and guidance counselor. He is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, the Peoria County Bar Association, and the Mediation Council of Illinois. He completed a three-year term as a member of the Board of Directors of the Mediation Council of Illinois in 1996.

At different times, he has served as the chair of the Peoria County Bar Association Family Law Committee, and he has lectured on family law topics at seminars sponsored by the Peoria County Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, and the Mediation Council of Illinois.

Dr.Ted Chapin is a licensed clinical psychologist and licensed marriage and family therapist as well as the founder of Chapin & Russell Associates, and the president of Resource Management Services, Inc. Ted received his Ph.D. in Counseling and Personnel Services from Marquette University in 1984. He has 22 years of clinical experience. Ted completed basic training in divorce mediation in 2001 and an advanced internship in divorce mediation in 2004. He is a member of the Association of Conflict Resolution. Ted is a recognized speaker, trainer, and consultant. His clinical specialty is in marriage and family therapy, child custody evaluations, divorce mediation, and private practice development.

 

Jerelyn D. Maher became a judge in 1995, serving in the 10th Circuit Court, which comprises Tazewell, Peoria, Stark, Marshall, and Putnam counties. Judge Maher will serve as Presiding Judge of the Domestic Relations Court of the 10th Circuit Court. She helped develop a program to educate judges and courthouse personnel about the special needs of the elderly in the courtroom, and she was instrumental in developing the Guardian Ad Litem program in Tazewell County, under which children can be appointed an attorney in domestic violence cases. Judge Maher also created a visitation center for the safe exchange of children for visitation as well as supervised visitation. Jerelyn Maher graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. from Bradley University and received her law degree from Loyola School of Law in 1977.
