Speakers

Dr. Lori Russell-Chapin is a Professor of Education and an award-winning teacher at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. She was the chairperson of the Department of Educational Leadership and Human Development Counseling for twelve years. Currently she is the Associate Dean for the College of Education and Health Sciences.

Dr. Russell-Chapin continues to teach graduate counseling courses such as "Practicum" and "Internship." Lori is in part-time private practice with her husband, Dr. Ted Chapin. She has been providing supervision for graduate students and counselors in the field for the past 19 years.

Dr. Russell-Chapin is LCPC, CMHCC, and an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS). In 2004, Dr. Russell-Chapin and Dr. Allen Ivey co-authored a book entitled, Your Supervised Practicum and Internship: Field Resources for Turning Theory Into Practice (Brooks/Cole Publishers). Her "Microcounseling Supervision Model" was featured in the 2004 Canadian Journal for Counseling and Development. Dr. Russell-Chapin and Bryan DeNure created a DVD, "Five Different Approaches to Clinical Supervision." The DVD/video is being distributed through Microtraining Associates.

Dr. Ushra Sundaram, practicing under the name of Swami Dharmakeerti Saraswati, has worked for many years as a Psychiatrist at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) in Bangalore, India. She has a Diploma in Psychological Medicine from Bangalore University and has passed the National Board of Examinations in Psychiatry, similar to a Ph.D. in Psychiatry in the United States.

Dr.Sundaram found that yoga was a practical and effective approach to reintegrating the body, mind, and spirit. She brings the message that yoga is a science to reach into your own inner self and rediscover your potential for healing, wisdom, and compassion. Under the instructions of her Yoga Guru and the guidance of her Sri Vaishnava Guru, she is currently researching the ancient meditation techniques described in the Tantras.

Dr. Sundaram has traveled extensively in India, teaching yoga at schools, colleges, temples, churches, corporations, and to individuals. She was a Visiting Professor at Youngstown State University in Ohio and has since traveled annually to teach in the U.S. In 2001, she conducted a six-day course with Joseph LePage, founder of Integrative Yoga Therapy, at the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health. She has published articles in journals and has authored a book on "Mantra."
