In order to provide a permanent and suitable
memorial to Donald L. Weyeneth, Class of 1952, Mrs. Sarena
Weyeneth (widow) and Mr. Brian Weyeneth (son and Class of
1992) delivered a $10,000 contribution to Bradley University
to establish the Donald L. Weyeneth Endowed Scholarship.
In addition to this gift, Brian Weyeneth has included Bradley
University in his estate plans. His vision for assisting
students and the university in the future is truly appreciated.
Brians generosity will be recognized with membership
in the Universitys 1897 Associates Society.
The Donald L. Weyeneth Endowed Scholarship
will benefit students in Bradleys College of Engineering
and Technology in recognition of Donalds association
with the College.
Upon graduation from Bradley University, Donald
began his career as a field engineer working with the Panamanian
government and the Panama Canal Company from 1952 to 1956.
In 1956, he was hired by General Electric and went to work
at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Cincinnati, Ohio.
In 1960, he transferred to the Appliance Control
Department in Morrison, Illinois, where he attained his
pivotal position as senior product planning specialist.
In the early 1980s, he initiated, planned and developed
a series of automotive control components, which were adaptable
to General Motors, Ford and Chrysler/Plymouth product lines.
The success of these broad applications led to GEs
entry into the automotive market, both nationally and internationally.
In September 1987, he retired from General Electric after
31 years of service.
Bradley University is honored to have the
Weyeneth family name associated with its endowed scholarship
program. The family will receive information each year about
the scholarship recipients and will have an opportunity
to meet the students each year at the Scholarship Luncheon.
