Welcome to EHS 120
"The University Experience" EHS 120 was developed just for new
students at Bradley University. It is a course that will provide students
with opportunities to learn the significance of a Bradley education, and
a clearer definition of a student's place within the entity called "higher
education." The questions, "What am I doing here?" and "Where
am I going?" are the primary areas addressed by the course.
EHS 120 also helps students form a relationship with the Institution and
with Bradley faculty and upperclass students. In so doing, those relationships
are the resulting focus on new students' gifts and abilities, assisting
in the personal and academic success of each student.
Equally important for students is the opportunity to gain a greater understanding
of today's college environment, the challenges students face, and the components
of their lives that must be nurtured.
What is EHS 120 all about?
The "University Experience" EHS 120 follows a common core of
topics that include appreciation of diversity, issues of human sexuality,
substance abuse, campus rape enlightenment, time management and study skills,
and campus resources for student support and success. The course also includes
a volunteer or community service opportunity within the Peoria area. EHS
120 requires class attendance and participation, successful completion of
assignments including any papers and/or projects, completion of out-of-class
requirements and activities, and attendance at out-of-class presentations.
The "University Experience" has been studied to measure its effect
on first-year college students. These studies show that students who take
EHS 120 tend to graduate at higher numbers than students who do not take
the course.
