My interest in the creative use of computers has evolved from a synthesis of my artistic endeavors. My background is in drawing, painting and photography, and my work in all three areas has prepared me well for this new art form. For the past year and a half I've been exploring the creative use of computers and have found it to be an environment rich in artistic possibilities. I enjoy the opportunity the digital platform provides to merge different media and to express different creative impulses. The computer allows me to work with a considerable amount of spontaneity within the photographic/technical arena.
While my imagery originates from traditional photographic processes, once digitized, the range of possible manipulations and the direct access I then have to my images is very exciting for me.
In my current work I've been exploring ideas of nature and how it relates to human emotion, especially rage. In my work I combine the human figure in poses expressing anger or rage with images of nature that convey reverence. I hope to equate the struggle of man's sometimes futile attempts to conquer his emotions with the likewise futility of his attempts to conquer the infinite force of nature. This juxtapositioning of ideas further parallels the strength of human emotion with the beauty and power of nature.
I hope the digital platform continues to satisfy me artistically, and I hope not only to continue exploring my visual ideas within this exciting new genre, but also that the reception of the art work will continue to be encouraged by the artistic community.
