The reason that I choose to work in photography is that no matter how much I manipulate an image, it still has a sense of reality. Photography answers visual questions for me in a way that no other media can,

The medium in which an artist works is the first and most important decision he has to make. Even though I am trained to work in oils, pastels, and watercolors, for my subjects I find that to synthesize reality is not as appropriate as to capture reality.
Making changes chemically, electronically or mechanically allows me to make a personal statement about the way I view reality.

I try to concentrate on the image, keeping the technicaI aspects in the background. It is easy to fall into a trap by letting the technical overshadow the aesthetic. I could not care less what f/stop or shutter speed was used, It is unimportant to me what paper the final print is printed on. I am not saying that this knowledge is unimportant, I have it firmly ingrained in my mind. What I am saying is that I will not fall into the trap of making images for the act itself, as so many photographers do.

Digital manipulation has allowed me an ease of visual composing that almost seems free flowing. I can concentrate much less on the technical and worry only about the final image.
