The creative process and the wonderment that follows has been a part of my life for almost as long as I can remember. This curiosity has led in a number of directions in the search to express myself in a visual manner. After exploring a number of media, the area that continues to interest and challenge me is photography. The potential and impact that this discipline offers has been a motivating factor in my development as an artist.

The desire to create and express my personal vision within the parameters of photography have followed a rather diverse and not always systematic approach. As with all artists, the search for style and legitimacy has been a major force influencing the philosophical rationale of completed work. With the passage of time, this pursuit of discovery has continued down a number of paths with somewhat interesting results bridging a number of techniques and approaches.

The impact and deceiving simplicity of the photograms of artists like Man Ray and Laszlo Moholy Nagy is intriguing in that they reduce image making to its basic components of light and form. This technique presented a challenge when viewed from the creative potential that digital imaging has given the photographer. It was my intent to meld these rather diverse techniques together and push the creative envelope of lensless photography. As the images began to develop, whimsical, fantasy-based cyber creations constructed of positive photograms and toy humanoid forms emerged. I found that a cynical feeling also began to surface in reaction to the deification that society has bestowed upon technology. These photographs are personal statements that address reality, life, and values from the standpoint of someone caught between technology and the security of that which is comfortable and familiar.

As I view my personal growth, there is a desire to be able to continue exploring materials and processes that give freedom to express the images and concepts that surface in my imagination. It is my belief that art should be an opportunity to share the excitement that the creative moment gives when it is conceived in the artist's mind.
