I captured a 35mm black and white image using a Nikon 6006 camera while in a local cemetery. The photo was of a statue of a woman, and her expression evoked sadness. The photo was scanned into my Pentium 90PC via a Hewlett-Packard IIcx scanner. The image was zoomed and cropped so that only the head was seen. The image was placed in Picture Publisher 5.0 where I changed contrast and brightness and added some detail to the face by selecting areas with the magic wand tool. After experimenting a while I then placed the image in Photoshop 3.0 as a background layer. With a Summa Sketch III digitizer tablet and pen, more lines were drawn about the head before calling upon Kai's Power Tools Fractal Explorer to embellish those lines and show a lacy pattern around the image. A separate color photograph of a rose was scanned into Photoshop where it was cut out from the background with the lasso tool. The rose, in RGB mode, was then pasted as a layer on top of the original image where I felt it had the most impact. The rose was feathered and trimmed to fit before the two layers were merged together. The image was then fine-tuned for sharpness and detail before being printed on an Epson Stylus Color 720 dpi ink jet printer on Hewlett-Packard premium glossy paper.
