My art is basically about altering the reality by which I am surrounded. Sometimes a bit of social criticism creeps in, but more often my images are meant simply to be visually interesting. I am hoping to create a stimulus to our every-day environment so as to experience its possibilities in our imagination.

Photography was initially a vehicle to record reality. Using a photograph and changing its realistic content is my challenge. Through manipulations I am giving my world a bit of a surreal character. Very often this is accomplished in a rather subtle manner and will require an attentive audience to look twice. Many times the twist away from a realistic photograph is meant to be whimsical, humorous, or ironic. Very often I am combining images to gain a completely new perspective on things by realizing that mental and emotional connections exist between objects that are physically separated.

Creating new images through manipulations requires a great deal of pre-visualization. During the process of creating the conceptualized image - whether it goes into the preconceived direction or whether the end result is completely different from what was initially conceived - I learn about my own interpretation of this world. Surprisingly this world view of mine is constantly evolving. It sure doesn't look as if I'm ever going to find the eternal wisdom but if that means my creativity and my willingness to learn and accept other people's perceptions of life will stay alive, I'm not sure that's such a bad thing after all.
