I choose to work with familiar images, enhancing or transforming them into my memory ( or perception) of that moment. Prairie landscapes are transformed into surreal environments with super saturated color and untraditional compositions.
Digital photography possesses a unique set of challenges, especially if the artist's intent is to create images that are photographically real. If the artist does not remember the effect light has on a scene (the very essence of photography) the image becomes unbelievable and unnatural. As a digital photographer, I try to assemble images that have a consistency of light, a realness. The digital image, thought put together from many different photographs, seems connected and complete. Although, the real interest for me, is that in all of the correctness in composition and light, there is that surreal quality which makes the viewer wonder where (and how) the photograph was taken.
