The image of "Whale & Crystal Ball" started as an archive black and white image of a deserted car wash in the form of a concrete whale along with palm trees located in Buffalo, New York.
Shot during my college years while attending Buffalo State College, this image started as a 4"x 5". black & white negative shot on an overcast day to instill the muted emotional feel of deserted ruins of another time.
Years later While attending the School of Visual Arts in New York City I used the image in a class project requiring manipulation of an existing image without any added elements.
Composed in Adobe Photoshop, the sky was removed and a less obtrusive pixel noise was added in its place. From there I selected area by area and gave each its own magical distortion to create a new landscape with no reference to time, location, or space.
