Theresa S. Falcon Executive Speaker Series
The Theresa Falcon Executive Speaker Series is an extraordinary opportunity for EMBA students and the Peoria community to learn from internationally known speakers, scholars and business leaders. These leaders will share their expertise and experiences and, most importantly, challenge people to think differently.
The series commenced on August 28, 2009 with inaugural speaker Elaine L. Chao, who served as the United States Secretary of Labor under President George W. Bush. The 24th Labor Secretary is the first Asian Pacific American woman ever appointed to a president’s Cabinet in our nation’s history. Under her tenure, the department accomplished historic achievements, including updating the white-collar overtime regulations under the Fair Labor Standards Act — the most significant regulatory tort reform of President Bush’s first term. Secretary Chao’s distinguished career has spanned the public, private and non-profit sectors, including president and chief executive officer of United Way of America, director of the Peace Corps, serving as deputy secretary at the U.S. Department of Transportation, chairman of the Federal Maritime Commission, deputy Maritime administrator in the U.S. Department of Transportation and White House Fellow. Chao currently is a member of the Board of the Institute of Politics at Harvard.
