Accounting

Accounting is often called the "language of business" because it deals with interpreting and communicating information about a company's past activities and forecasting future operations. Every decision maker, from the owner of a small start-up to the CEO of a global conglomerate, works with accounting information. This is a far stretch from the stereotype of back-room number crunching.

The Mission of the Department of Accounting is to prepare students for productive and satisfying careers. The highest priority of the Department is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to commence and continue their careers. Our undergraduate program meets the needs of students seeking accounting careers in private industry and the public sector and lays the foundation for those seeking careers in public practice. Our Master of Science in Accounting program is designed both for individuals entering public practice and for students and experienced accountants desiring to further their accounting education.

The Department of Accounting faculty are experienced, dedicated teachers and scholars who maintain relationships with the professional community. The faculty actively engage in research and other professional activities that complement and enhance their teaching and contribute to the accounting profession. Service activities are valued for their contributions to the Department by promoting the well being of the Department, College, and University and strengthening relationships with the business community.
