Tuition Remission & Federal/State Financial Assistance Employees using tuition remission benefits are strongly encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on the web site www.fafsa.ed.gov. The FAFSA results are used to determine eligibility for all types of federal assistance including Direct Student loans, College Work-Study and the Pell grant programs. It is commonly assumed that the receipt of tuition remission precludes eligibility for other assistance. On the contrary, student and parent borrowing opportunities are available to assist with any costs beyond those covered by tuition remission. Also, Federal Work-Study eligibility could provide employment opportunities during the summer and regular semesters. Even if you are not interested in the federal programs, you should complete the FAFSA to determine your eligibility for the State of Illinois Monetary Award Program (MAP grant). In the current academic year dozens of our families have qualified for a total of nearly $150,000 through this program. Any amount received from the MAP grant will be used to provide an even greater education experience for our students. Because of income restrictions, you may not be eligible for all of these additional opportunities. If you want to discuss your family's situation prior to completing the FAFSA, please feel free to call the Director of Financial Assistance at 677-3086 for a confidential discussion. If you would like assistance in completing your FAFSA we would be pleased to help. Finally, if you have any general questions about the tuition remission program, please call us at 677-3089. |
