On move in day, all residents must pay a non-refundable $40 activity fee before they receive their room key. This activity fee will fund their floor funds (floor bonding), their building's hall council (creates events every Sunday night), and the Association of Residence Halls (improves hall life). We will accept only cash or checks.
All residence halls have two high-speed network connections available per room. When you arrive on campus, set-up your computer and attach it to the ethernet outlet. Then click on your Web browser and you will immediately follow the directions to register your computer with the University. There is no additional charge for internet use in the residence halls. Also, be sure to view the Responsible Computing Web site at helpdesk.bradley.edu and click on new student.
Check the dimensions of the residence hall your student will be residing in to build an appropriately sized loft. Students who choose to build a loft in their room will be required to remove the loft at the end of the academic year. In addition, your loft must be freestanding and not bolted to anything in the room. The building of a loft and its safety rests solely on the student(s) who wish to build it. Lofts may only be built in Heitz, Williams, Elmwood, Lovelace, or Wendle halls. No lofts may be constructed prior to the first weekend after classes begin in the fall.
If you are purchasing a futon, you will want to be sure to check-out the room dimensions to be sure the futon will fit in the room. Not all futon sizes will fit in all the rooms.
Each student room has a private telephone line provided with one phone number per room. There is no long distance service available. Local and toll-free calls are able to be made at no additional cost. It is recommended each room have a land-phone and answering machine. This will ease communication with faculty & staff who do not have access to student cell phone numbers.
Every residence hall room comes equipped with 57 channels of basic television as a standard feature. There is no extra charge for the service, but students wishing to purchase a premium service such as HBO may do so for an extra charge and have it arranged through the local cable provider. Residents need to bring a cable cord to hook up their television for the basic cable service.
Each Residence Hall is equipped with both coin-operated and Quick Cash operated washers and dryers. If you deposit money in a unit and it fails to function, please contact the hall office in your building for a refund. Depending on the residence hall, the location of the laundry machine varies.
There are housekeepers provided in each hall who clean the common areas of each building such as hallways, bathrooms, lobbies, and lounges. They do not clean individual student rooms. Keep in mind, however, the cleanliness of the hall and building is as much the responsibility of the students as it is the housekeepers.
Each residence hall room has a mailbox with the room number located in the lobby of the building. A resident's room key will open his or her own mailbox. All incoming mail is distributed to the boxes Monday- Saturday. Students who have packages sent to them will have a package notice form put in their mailbox asking them to pick it up at the residence hall office.
All packages are kept in a locked office closet. When you have mail sent to you, please do not include "Bradley University" in the address because it will delay delivery to your specific Residence Hall. Mail should be addressed and include the student's name, building, street address, room number, Peoria, IL 61606. Be sure to include your room number on all mail being sent to you.
You will be issued a room key when you check into your Residence Hall. Your key will open your room, your mailbox, stairwell doors, the elevator, and designated doors to your building. Please keep in mind that if you lose your key, it will require a lock change for which you will be charged. Also, if you are ever locked out of your room, your RA can let you in to your room for a small fee.
Students are welcome to bring refrigerators for their rooms without exceeding 4.2 cubic feet capacity. This would limit the size of the unit to approximately 36 inches in height.
