Emily Hanson: The Indianapolis Zoo has been involved in interactive videoconferencing since 1994. Since that time, this program has reached out to hundreds of thousands of students and brought the natural world into their classrooms. Emily Hansen, who has been with the program since 2000, has had the pleasure of being soaked by mischievous dolphins and drooled on by giraffes, and has watched helplessly as baboons chomped through her wires and an owl threw up a pellet on her shoe...all live on camera (and much to the delight of her audiences at the time). By incorporating live animals, on-location settings, and other staff members who are eager to share their experiences with students of all ages, the Indianapolis Zoo feeds curiosity and excitement about the living things that share our planet."
