Policy Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to define employee responsibilities regarding the physical security of University-owned computer workstations and mobile computing devices.
Policy Description
Workstation Security
University-owned computer workstations shall be utilized in physically secure locations to the extent possible while allowing for their appropriate use.
Portable computers and mobile computing devices are easily transportable by design. Care should be taken at all times to ensure the physical security of these devices whether in use on campus or in remote locations.
All peripheral devices attached to a workstation directly or via a network connection should be located in a secure facility to prevent theft of the devices.
Policy Scope
This policy pertains to all computer workstations and mobile computing devices owned by Bradley University, whether located on or off campus.
Policy Definitions
- Computer Workstations – General purpose computers which are utilized by individuals and include stationary and portable systems.
- Mobile Computing Devices – Handheld computing devices including personal digital assistants (PDAs) and cellular phones with data access.
- Computer peripherals. Peripheral devices such as printers and scanners. Peripheral devices may be attached to a computer directly or via the campus network.
