Secure Wireless Networking - Aeris
Began Monday June 27, 2005

On Monday June 27, 2005, enhanced procedures will be in place to access the wireless network. Existing public networks OLIAIR, MORAIR, CONAIR, LIBRARY, STCAIR and AIRG have been replaced with the new broadcast network Aeris. This change allows us to take advantage of the next step in wireless security, the 802.1x wireless security..

New procedures for connecting to Aeris are in place and require configuration changes on your laptops or wireless devices. >>More

Network Registration
Effective Tuesday, June 21, 2005

Securing the networks against intruders continues to be a challenge here and at home. The implementation of the Cisco firewall in 2003 was the first step in management and prevention. During that time, campus users were placed in different areas of the network based on functions or responsibilities. We must continue to monitor the status of the network and make changes as needed to thwart attempts made on the network. One means to ensure network reliability and safety is through network registration.

Network registration is the process of placing your computer into the firewall zone appropriate for your level of responsibility. If you have access to sensitive information, you will be placed into a high-level zone. Computer labs and public use computers and printers will be in a public zone suitable for the majority of uses. Students will have their own security zone that provides the resources necessary to fulfill academic requirements. >>More
