The Chester Sipple Poetry Award

The award acknowledges student achievement in creating a larger body of poetry. Students submit to this competition portfolios of five original poems. The winning entrant receives a $500 award, the runner-up earns $200, and third place garners $100. In addition, the English Department presents certificates to student poets whose work earns finalist honors.

    The Department is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Kevin Stein to the position of Illinois Poet Laureate.
    English majors are encouraged to take the American or English Studies Abroad Program for one or two semesters.
