Anne Herbert earned her B.A. from Bradley University, her M.A. from Northwestern University, and is currently completing the doctoral program in English at Northwestern University, specializing in the fields of British Victorian Studies and Postcolonial Literatures. Ms. Herbert teaches Freshman Composition and a general education human values course, and an Introduction to African-American Literature.

During her teaching assignment at Bradley University, Ms. Herbert is also actively involved in research and writing of her dissertation, which focuses on racial and gender issues in British Victorian Drama. After completing her dissertation, her future research in this area will include looking at other nineteenth-century theatrical productions, such as British minstrelsy, music hall, and pantomime, to explore the ways race and gender inflect genre. In addition to Victorian Studies, Ms. Herbert's research interests include British influences in African-American literature and culture. After a recent trip to the British Library in London and the Bodleian Library in Oxford, her research activities generated a particular interest in pamphlets and other polemical literature distributed by the British Anti-Slavery Society and other abolitionist organizations during the period surrounding the American Civil War.

Ms. Herbert currently serves on Bradley's African-American Studies Committee.
