Visiting Writers Series

Bradley University's English Department has sponsored its Visiting Writers Series for nearly 30 years. During this long run, the Series has brought to campus a cornucopia of both emerging and established writers. Once on campus, all writers meet with students, lead classes or workshops, and present public readings of their works.

The Series welcomes a diversity of modes and styles, equally favoring the experimental and the classic. The Series' various flavors are evident in this sampling of visiting authors: John Updike, Rita Dove, Gwendolyn Brooks, Billy Collins, Robert Coover, Yusef Komunyakaa, Mary Oliver, Philip Levine, David Wojahn, Dean Young, Tony Hoagland, Janice Harrington, William Matthews, Slam poet Marc Smith, Briget Pegeen Kelly, Michael Van Walleghen, Edward Hirsch, performance poet David Hernandez and his band Street Sounds, Larry Heineman, Richard Burgin, Beckian Fritz Goldberg, and Maura Stanton.
