My professional interests include number theory, discrete mathematics, mathematics education, and (perhaps most importantly) the history of mathematics.

James Glaishier (1848 - 1928) said

"I am sure that no subject loses more than mathematics by any attempt to dissociate it from its history."

I'm a strong believer in this quote and my approach to teaching mathematics reflects that interest. Historical topics are introduced throughout my classes at all levels.

I am also very actively involved in the Mathematical Association of America (http://www.maa.org/). I'm Governor of the Illinois Section of MAA (ISMAA) and a member of the Committee on Consultants, Committee on Study Tours and the Council for the Profession

Aside from mathematics my interests include running and yoga.  I'm a member of the Illinois Valley Striders Running Club (http://www.ivs.org/).
