Why Minor in Women's Studies?

A minor in Women's Studies provides a rich and flexible liberal arts education but also integrates knowledge across traditional academic boundaries. Women's Studies coursework challenges students to examine the effect of gender on cultural, political, and personal experience. The minor provides excellent preparation for careers in education, health sciences, law, management, social work, or policy studies.

Indeed, employers often prefer interdisciplinary students because they find these students have excellent writing and oral presentation skills and offer creative solutions. Women's studies minors are well prepared to enter their chosen career with open minds about the challenges of the workplace.

Women's Studies is also an appropriate undergraduate degree for continued graduate training in the social sciences and humanities. The interdisciplinary nature of Women's Studies prepares students for graduate work in the social sciences and humanities and in education or library science fields, where inter-disciplinary connections are very important.

On the personal level, coursework in Women's Studies enhances the human potential of both women and men by questioning and redefining societal values. Our graduates are well prepared to raise the next generation with a better understanding of our diverse and multicultural world.
