 LEADERSHIP - "ALUMS"

The Leadership Development Center’s "ALUMS" seminar is a skill-based program, which is designed to teach high school students new skills in leading others, working in groups, managing conflict, and setting goals. Additionally, the program contains self-assessment components, as well as interpersonal communication instruction.

This new learning provides students with an understanding of individual strengths and promotes recognition of the value of individual differences.

This process is designed to improve the student’s self-understanding, help the student develop new skills, and build the student’s self-esteem.

Program Goals

  • Identify, practice and improve leadership skills.
  • Increase understanding of leadership styles of self and others.
  • Develop measurable goals that can be achieved after the program.
  • Stimulate further personal growth and excellence in the practice of leadership.

Understand Self and Others as you:

Assess Self
Understand results of self-assessment instruments.
Understand the leadership styles of self and others.

Lead Others
Learn characteristics and styles of leadership.
Learn to lead in a variety of circumstances.
Learn to match your style to situational needs.

Improve Relationships as you:

Use Groups
Participate in-group problem solving.
Learn to improve team effectiveness in problem solving.
Observe your behavior on videotape and receive feedback about how your style affects others.

Manage Conflict
Learn five conflict management strategies.
Learn how to communicate with others when resolving conflict.

Plan for the Future as you:

Set Goals
Apply self-awareness gained during the program.
Learn the goal-planning process.
Set personal and school goals that are realistic, motivating and achievable.
