March 24, 2015

Bradley University is among the top 25 undergraduate game design programs in the nation according to the Princeton Review.

The Princeton Review today released its sixth annual ranking, naming the best schools for undergrad and graduate students to study game design. Bradley's program is ranked 13th nationally and is the highest ranked school in Illinois.

“Once again our undergraduate game design program is one of the best in the nation due to our dedicated, innovative and hardworking faculty and students,” said Bradley University President Joanne Glasser. “This is a well-deserved honor shared by the Department of Interactive Media and the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems."

Monica McGill, Assistant Professor of Game Design at Bradley, says the ranking recognizes the collaboration between the Departments of Interactive Media and Computer Science & Information Systems, which offer complementary concentrations in gaming. "The Game curriculum was started in 2010 as a collaboration between the two departments, with additional support from the Department of Art. This interdisciplinary program simulates the process of game development in industry, providing students a chance to work with designers, artists, and programmers on team projects across several courses."

The Department of Interactive Media offers concentrations in Game Design, Animation, and Web and Application Design, which teach students to be critical thinkers in a continually evolving field that requires interdisciplinary, theoretical and application knowledge in the design, development and production of interactive media. The Department of Computer Science and Information Systems offers concentrations in Computer Game Technology, Mobile Computing, and Software, Web, and Computer Security, all of which teach students the technical knowledge and skills needed to be successful in computing careers.

The Princeton Review conducted a survey of 150 schools offering game design coursework or degrees in 2014-15. More than 60 data points were weighted to tally the school ranking lists. Criteria focused on four areas: curriculum, facilities, technology, and career services. The University of Southern California retained its #1 spot on the undergraduate list for the fifth time in six years. See the entire list at www.princetonreview.com/game-design.

Bradley's Game Design program also was ranked highly on the Animation Career Review list for 2014.
