Verdi at the Cathedral

The Bradley Community Chorus, Bradley Chorale, and Bradley Symphony Orchestra will present Verdi’s Requiem on Sunday, November 20, at 4 p.m. at St. Mary’s Cathedral, 607 N.E. Madison in Peoria.

Verdi wrote the Requiem in 1874 to commemorate the death of his hero, the Italian writer
Alessandro Manzoni. It is one of the most dramatic musical settings of the Requiem text
ever written, with powerfully effective use of voices and instruments.

Soloists will be Penelope Shumate, soprano, of the Western Illinois University Music
Department; Jill Phillips, mezzo-soprano, Luther College Music Department; Eric
Ashcraft, tenor, who has taught at Luther and Augustana Colleges; and John Hines, bass,
of the University of Northern Iowa School of Music. John Jost, professor of music and
director of choral activities at Bradley, will conduct.

General admission is $10, students $5. Tickets may be purchased at the door or by calling 677-2650.
