Bradley University Cybersecurity Students Excel at NCAE CyberGames Regional Competition
Students from Bradley University showcased their cybersecurity skills and expertise at the Midwest 1 regional of the 2024 NCAE CyberGames on February 17, 2024. Two teams, representing the Bradley University Cybersecurity Club, participated in the competition, demonstrating exceptional talent and determination.
The NCAE CyberGames, hosted by the National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C), is designed to encourage college students to explore the dynamic world of cybersecurity competitions. The event provides a unique opportunity for participants to learn, collaborate, and gain hands-on experience in a supportive environment.
Hilltop Hackers Team 1, composed of Bradley University Cybersecurity Club members, emerged victorious with a remarkable comeback in the final 20 minutes of the competition, securing the top position. This outstanding performance has earned them a coveted spot in the national invitational competition, scheduled to take place in Tampa, Florida. The team's success highlights their ability to work cohesively, solve complex challenges, and navigate the evolving landscape of cybersecurity.
Additionally, Hilltop Hackers Team 2 showcased their proficiency by earning the second-highest infrastructure score, demonstrating their adeptness in implementing and defending systems. The team's overall performance secured them a commendable fourth-place finish in the regional competition.
“Cybersecurity Club prepared for the contest since the start of the semester,” said Benjamin Padgitt, president of Cybersecurity Club. This was our first year of eligibility for this competition because we received our NSA designation in the fall. This enables us to compete against other universities at the collegiate level with the designation. I am very proud of the Hilltop Hackers’ performance: especially in the CTF. We have prepared for this using HackTheBox and competition labs at club meetings. It was a complete team effort to win the regional contest with everyone contributing to the final score.”
The NCAE CyberGames focuses on creating an inclusive space for college students who may be new to cybersecurity competitions. It emphasizes teamwork, building confidence, and skill development. Bradley University's Cybersecurity Club members have exemplified these values, proving their dedication to excellence in the field.
