Research is in the area of fluid mechanics. The available projects are: (1) CFD simulations of NASA's ground research vehicle. Student must have experience using FLUENT or another CFD software such as OpenFoam. (2) Liquid drop collision experiments – an old inkjet printer will be modified to create a drop-on-demand drop ejector. Student must have basic electronics experience.
(3) Theoretical study of drop-drop collisions. This study will focus on wake-capture effects. Student will have to review scientific literature and perform 2D dynamics simulations. Students can receive ME 409 independent study project credit for their work.
