Summer: The Land and the Lake

As I walk along the beach
my feet burst into flames
as if I'm walking on fiery coals.
Ouch! Hot, hot, hot!
People gulping down gallons of water;
drops of sweat dripping down my head,
my body melts on the shoreline
like a Snickers bar melting in the sun.

The breeze from the lake
rushing into my face.
as I walk against the wind,
rushing to the shade to get a drink of water,
cooling off in the lake's breeze,
I feel relaxed,
Lying down to rest
before swimming in the lake,
cooling off in the icy water,
and coming out freezing!
All on a hot, hot summer's day.
