Desired Characteristics

Bradley University invites applications and nominations for a dynamic leader to serve as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Provost will work with the university community to form and implement a vision of Bradley’s academic future that enables the university to move toward national distinction.

Applicants should have credentials, including an earned doctorate, that will support appointment as a tenured, full professor in an academic department at Bradley University. This will require a record of effective teaching, quality scholarship, research or creative production, and service. Significant administrative experience at the Dean level or higher is expected.

The committee will assess the candidate’s credentials with respect to:

  1. Leadership ability and a record of accomplishments.
  2. A history of successful decision-making and the ability to work with the entire university community.
  3. Demonstrated experience in fiscal and personnel operations.
  4. Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  5. Evidence of a commitment to affirmative action, equal opportunity and diversity.
  6. Ability to serve as a forceful internal and external advocate for faculty, students and the institution.
  7. An understanding of and appreciation for both liberal and professional studies.
  8. A proven capacity to work effectively and collaboratively in a shared governance and consultative decision making culture.

The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs is the chief academic officer of the University and reports directly to the President. He or she is a member of the President’s Cabinet and the University’s senior administrative team. Reporting directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs are the Deans of the five academic colleges and the Dean of the Graduate School. Direct reports also include the Associate Provost for Information Resources and Technology, Associate Provost for Research, Assistant Provost for Academic Affairs, and Directors of the Division of Continuing Education and Professional Development, International Programs, Teaching Excellence and Faculty Development, Institutional Improvement, Institute for Principled Leadership in Public Service, and the Registrar.
