Position Description

Bradley University -- an institution with rich tradition, national reputation, and vibrant academic and student life -- announces a nationwide search to recruit the University’s new Provost.

Founded in 1897, Bradley University is an independent, privately endowed, coeducational institution.  Bradley offers its approximately 5,000 undergraduate students more than 100 programs among five colleges:  Foster College of Business Administration; Slane College of Communications and Fine Arts; Education and Health Sciences; Engineering and Technology; and Liberal Arts and Sciences.  The University’s nearly 1,000 graduate students are offered 14 graduate degrees in 31 academic areas including an AACSB-accredited MBA, an Executive MBA, and a Doctorate in Physical Therapy.  Bradley employs more than 300 FTE faculty and has an annual operating budget of more than $140 million.

Bradley University has been ranked 6th among Midwestern comprehensive universities in the 2009 edition of "America's Best Colleges," published by U.S. News & World Report.   In addition, Bradley's Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering and Technology was ranked number three for those programs that are primarily undergraduate. Bradley University has been ranked 24th on the list of "Top 25 Most Connected Campuses" and "Top 25 Most Entrepreneurial Campuses" in the nation by The Princeton Review and Forbes magazine. The $150 million ‘Campaign for a Bradley Renaissance’ is in progress with the recent opening of a new recreational center.  An arena and athletic facility are scheduled to open next year.  Construction has begun on an alumni center and an academic building for education and health sciences.

Reporting to the President, the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs is the chief academic officer of the university and is responsible for the effective execution of the University’s academic mission. It is anticipated that the best candidates for the post will have significant administrative experience at the Dean level or higher and will have an earned doctorate.  It is also expected that the selectee will have an excellent record of teaching and scholarship that will merit tenure in one of the University’s academic departments.
