Rededication ceremony is April 24

A ceremony to rededicate the newly renovated Constance Hall will be held on April 24 in the quad on the north side of Constance Hall. A musical prelude will begin at 11:45 a.m. followed by the ceremony at noon.

Renovation and expansion of Constance Hall was completed in the fall. The expansion provides an additional 4,000 square feet of space that consists of classrooms, practice areas and offices. New mediated classrooms and high-speed network infrastructure also were added. With construction complete, Constance Hall has more than 20,000 square feet of new and renovated space.

More than seventy years ago, the women's clubs of Peoria raised the necessary funds to build Bradley's first women's residence hall, which was named in memory of Jennie M. Constance, head of the English Department.

The three-story sandstone building included a first-floor dining room and kitchen as well as main reception room, parlor, and the house mother's living quarters. The second and third floors consisted of rooms for female students plus a small kitchenette for each floor.

The building remained a women's residence hall until 1962 when Constance Hall became the home of the department of music in the Slane College of Communications and Fine Arts.
