Todd Kelly Quintet to perform at Bradley
Peoria, Illinois . . . September 24, 2004 . . . The Todd
Kelly Quintet will perform a concert on Tuesday, November 2,
at 7:30 p.m. in Bradley University's Dingeldine Music Center,
located at 1417 W. Barker Avenue. Admission is free and open
to the public.
Members of the Quintet include Dr. Todd Kelly, trumpet and
flugelhorn; Dr. Steve Heinemann, saxophones; Mike Flack,
piano; Toby Curtright, bass; and Tom Marko, drums.
The group will perform several Todd Kelly original
compositions, including "Perpetual Notion,"
"Hurtin' for Certain," and "Berg-Like."
They will also play jazz classics including Horace Silver's
"Strollin'," Blue Mitchell's "Sir John,"
Clark Terry's "The Snapper," and Donald Byrd's
"It's a Heavy Town."
Dr. Kelly is assistant professor of trumpet and director of
jazz ensembles at Bradley, where he teaches trumpet, jazz
improvisation, secondary music methods. He maintains a busy
performing schedule in the Central Illinois area as a member
of the Todd Kelly Jazz Quintet, Broadway Big Band, Peoria
Symphony Orchestra, and as a freelance jazz and classical
musician. He is the musical director of the Central Illinois
Jazz Orchestra, a big band comprised of seventeen of the
finest musicians from the central Illinois area. Recently, he
has been touring with Indian tabla artist Sandip Burman. He
has backed such performers as Wayne Newton, Jerry Lewis,
Charo, the Fifth Dimension, and Chubby Checker. Dr. Kelly is
an artist/clinician for Conn/Selmer in Elkhart, Indiana.
