James Craig named Caterpillar Professor at Bradley
Peoria, Illinois Ð August 20, 2003 Ð Dr. James Craig,
professor of physics at Bradley University was named a Caterpillar Professor at Bradley
during the annual University Conference on Tuesday.
Caterpillar Professorships recognize and reward the highest
level of scholarship among Bradley's senior faculty who hold
tenure and the rank of full professor. Their scholarly
achievements, their influence on their colleagues, and their
national contributions to the ongoing dialogue of their
discipline make them exemplary teacher-scholars and deserving
of the highest recognition awarded at Bradley.
Recipients are selected after an extensive review process
involving external peer evaluation of all nominations and the
deliberation of an internal advisory committee. Each
Caterpillar Professor, in addition to salary and usual
benefits, receives an annual stipend of $8,000 plus associated
fringe benefits. Each professorship is reevaluated every five
years with renewal based on continuing productivity and
accomplishment.
Only six Caterpillar Professorships have been awarded since
the program was instituted in 2000.
Dr. Craig received bachelor's and masterÕs degrees from the
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and the Ph.D. from
Washington State University. Prior to coming to Bradley, he
worked in the corporate sector for Allen-Bradley Co. and was
on the faculties of the University of Nebraska at Omaha and
the University of Texas at El Paso. He is the recipient of
more than a dozen research grants and has more than 70
refereed publications.
