James Craig named Caterpillar Professor at Bradley

Peoria, Illinois Ð August 20, 2003 Ð Dr. James Craig, professor of physics at Bradley University was named a Caterpillar Professor at Bradley during the annual University Conference on Tuesday.

Caterpillar Professorships recognize and reward the highest level of scholarship among Bradley's senior faculty who hold tenure and the rank of full professor. Their scholarly achievements, their influence on their colleagues, and their national contributions to the ongoing dialogue of their discipline make them exemplary teacher-scholars and deserving of the highest recognition awarded at Bradley.

Recipients are selected after an extensive review process involving external peer evaluation of all nominations and the deliberation of an internal advisory committee. Each Caterpillar Professor, in addition to salary and usual benefits, receives an annual stipend of $8,000 plus associated fringe benefits. Each professorship is reevaluated every five years with renewal based on continuing productivity and accomplishment.

Only six Caterpillar Professorships have been awarded since the program was instituted in 2000.

Dr. Craig received bachelor's and masterÕs degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and the Ph.D. from Washington State University. Prior to coming to Bradley, he worked in the corporate sector for Allen-Bradley Co. and was on the faculties of the University of Nebraska at Omaha and the University of Texas at El Paso. He is the recipient of more than a dozen research grants and has more than 70 refereed publications.
