Johnson receives First Year Faculty Award
Peoria, Illinois Ð August 20, 2003 Ð Dr. Keith Johnson,
assistant professor of biology at Bradley University, was
awarded the First Year Faculty Award during the annual
University Conference on Tuesday.
Selection of the recipient is based on student evaluations,
peer visitation, course innovation and instructional
improvement. The honoree receives a certificate and stipend.
Dr. Johnson received a bachelor's degree from Monmouth College
and a doctorate from Dartmouth. He did post-doctoral studies
at Rice University from 1993 to 1999, and served as a visiting
assistant professor at Colby College prior to coming to
Bradley in 2002.
The First Year Faculty Award dates back to 1989 when the Sears
Roebuck Foundation established a national teaching excellence
program that enabled Bradley to honor a teacher who had
completed his or her first year at the University and had
demonstrated excellence in instruction. Although the Sears
Foundation no longer sponsors the award, the University
continues to honor one first-year tenure-track faculty member
each year.
