Residence Hall network shut down
A message from Computing Services
August 26, 2003 . . . The viruses and worms we've heard about in the news have made
the Residence Hall network unusable. To cope with this
situation we have shut off networking in the Residence Halls.
For the time being, we are allowing networking in the
fraternity and sorority houses and St James apartments.
It may be necessary to shut them down at some point in the future.
Staff and students are going room to room through all
Residence Halls to install the operating system patches
to correct the problem. They are also installing a trial
version of Norton Anti-virus. The trial version will function
for 14 days. Then students will need to purchase virus
software.
We are also monitoring the network to determine those rooms
which are generating this network traffic.
Your cooperation will help us return the network to normal
operation as soon as possible.
