Computer virus is affecting campus computers

The W32.Blaster worm has hit Bradley University. Variations of the worm are also being seen on campus computers.

This worm infects Windows XP, Windows 2000 and Windows NT.

If your computer has not been infected, it is imperative that you update you virus definitions and your operating system.

To update your virus definitions

  • Click on the Norton Anti Virus icon.
  • Select Live update.

To update your operating system

  • Press the Start button
  • Select Windows Update
  • Select Scan for Updates
  • You will be told if there are critical updates to install. If there are any, install them and follow the directions given.
  • Repeat the process until no further critical updates are available.

If your computer has been infected, it will continue to reboot and you will have trouble using the network. The Technology Helpdesk in the library has CDs to remove the worm and update your computer. Call ext. 2964.
